These are diagrams of some performances of That's It For The Other One. I've taken this idea from the cool Dark Star maps in DeadBase VII. The maps don't capture the quality or intensity of the performance but at least they show one easily quanitfiable aspect of each performance, the time. They should help fellow Other One freaks see what performances probably aren't worth tracking down on tape (or at least not for The Other One on the tape), like, say, 5/1/88, and which are worth tracking down if you don't already have them like, say, 11/20/71. The maps also show a little of how The Other One has evolved over the years.
Each character on the map of a performance represents 30 seconds. Actually, I rounded the times to the nearest 30 seconds so anything below 15 or 45 seconds got rounded down and anything above got rounded up. A 14 second jam won't show up on the map at all. A 16 second jam will get 1 character, a 44 second jam will get 1 character, 46 second jam will get 2 characters, a 1 minute and 14 second jam will get 2 characters, and 4 minute and 14 second jam will get 8 characters, etc.
In general, I've characterized sections of the Other 1 as either "The Other 1", when they are playing the basic Other 1 theme, "Space", when they are playing something like space, "Spacey Jam", when they are playing something kind of in between. If there is a jam that seems to be based even loosely on the Other 1 theme, I've just called it "The Other 1". If it doesn't seem to have any relation at all to the Other 1 theme then I've called it "Jam". There are also "Cryptical Envelopment" sections, "Drums", "Verse 1" and "Verse 2" sections.
In the 80's, "Space" and "Spacey Jam" have a slightly different meaning at the beginning of the Other 1. Frequently, someone will tease the Other 1 theme during Space, but then they'll go on to do something else in Space for awhile without any more reference to the Other 1 theme. I start timing as soon as someone hints of the Other 1 in Space, but list that as "Space". Once more than one person starts playing The Other 1 (not just hinting at it occasionally, but really playing it) then I call that a "Spacey Jam". I don't call it "The Other 1" until Phil plays "the roll" (or "drops the bomb" or whatever you want to call that wicked bass riff) or they go into the first verse. I'm still not sure whether or not to "count" Space as part of the Other 1, so most of the 80's Other Ones have 2 maps, one showing the preceeding Space (which had the Other One teases) and one without the preceeding Space.

More random notes:
The 11/11/67 Other 1 (and presumably all very early Other 1's?) has rather different lyrics, which I probably should have transcribed here but didn't. 2/14/68 has 1 (?) lyrical difference.
I'm not sure when the Other 1 listed as 12/10/69 is from. DeadBase III shows a second set with The Other One, but it's gone in DeadBase VII. It's map looks exactly like 5/15/70a, but it's not that. Whenever it is from it's pretty hot. New update: based on some things I've read about the 12/69 Thelma shows I think this is probably 12/11/69, but I haven't been able to verify it yet.
Maybe I should have kept track of which ones Healy messed with Bob's voice, but I didn't.
How come they drop the first verse is Philadelphia (9/21/73 and 4/6/82)?
I have to admit that when I started working on this, I had the preconception that all Other One's after '74 or so were lame, but after really listening I was suprised how good recent ones are, and that even short ones like 4/6/82 had some nice points.
The maps only show time, not the intensity or quality of the jams. According to the maps, 2/13/70 and 5/2/70 look pretty similar but I think 5/2/70 is one of the greatest performances ever while 2/13/70 doesn't excite me that much for some reason. Of course that is just MHO.
