Minky Momo comes down to earth from Fenarinarsa.

Minky Momo was the first Magical Girl title by Ashi Productions. The king of Fenarinarsa, the land of dreams, goes to sleep for 1000 years. He awakes to find the people of the modern world have lost their dreams and hopes and turned to despair. He sends Minky Momo, his only daughter, down to the world to do good things so that Fenarinarsa's status can be restored. The queen gives Minky a pendant that can transform her into an adult who is skilled in the ways of the world. She has three friends (pets) who follow her, Shindobook, Mocha, and Pipiru. She can also use the pendant to talk to animals.

In most episodes, Minky uses her power to try to help someone who has lost their dreams and hopes find them again. Minky is best known for her unbreakable sense of optimism and her determination to do whatever it takes to accomplish her goal.

This title breaks new ground as a magical girl show in both the themes explored and the production value. One of the basic differences between Minky and other magical girl type shows is that a number of the adult characters around Minky seem more like actual characters, who grow and develop, rather than scenery. Also, the production value is quite good, characters express emotion and unique mannerisms from the very first episode.

The original Minky Momo was shown on TV in '82-'83 and lasts 63 epidodes. A remake was shown around '92 had different character designs and was more lightweight than the original show. A movie was shown in '85, and two OAVs were produced after '92. Toys based on Minky Momo such as her pendant were extremely popular during this time.
